Chrome OS isn't ready for tablets yet

Chrome OS tablets are coming in fast to replace the Android tablets. But is Chrome OS any good on a tablet? In this episode of Processor, Dieter spends some time with Acer’s Chromebook Tab 10 education tablet to see how Google has evolved their OS.

What do you want to see in a Chrome OS tablet?

I was hopeful about Chrome tablets but the software still doesn't seem to play nice with Vudu for download and watch movies offline, my main need for a tablet. What do you recommend for someone who doesn't want to break the bank on Android but needs something for long haul flight entertainment?

Still iPad is the best choice. I am very excited for fuchsia os. And great video, The Verge, as always.

What is the point of buying a Chrome tablet if you already have an Android tablet? It is like the same thing. Just another gimmick. This will become a major failure similar to the Windows tablets a couple years ago.

I still don't understand why the Chrome OS exists, if we already have Android.
Hopefully the next Fuchsia OS replace both Chrome and Android!

You mean lug the bloody thing around? hell no I wanna carry something light in my minds you have a closed mind Dieter Bohn, learn to expand your brain cells and imagination and that was just practice on an acer tablet and afterwards the company will work harder to improve those problems since you've done a splendid job of showing us all those problems you pointed out. Again no to the keypad I believe chrome os is ready for tablets all it needs is to stay touch screen for my fingers and keep its in-game keyboard or whatever you call it and leave it alone and plus I wouldnt mind carrying around a chrome os tablet I dont plan on making it my stay at home laptop I already have a microsoft word laptop for that madness I wanna use chrome os tablets to go out and take pictures and I want that DAMN thing to be light besides I wanna replace my God damn Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.0. I don't understand Chrome OS vs Android. What's the real difference, isn't the former just a modified version of the latter.

"android tablets are on their way out" i.e. the tech giants want you to toss your current perfectly running tablet and buy a new one.

If people aren't buying them as much, its because the market is saturated. Most everyone who wants one has one.

    >I'm going to look at Chrome OS!
    >Btw, the Beta mode gives us more features quicker, but the OS becomes buggy since it's testing new features for beta testers.
    *Enables Beta mode*
    >Oh man, Chrome OS so buggy! It's defiantly not ready for the market!

I would really love to have a table that's truly chrome os. But history tells us that Google is not capable of committing to anything, just look at how ma, many projects it abandoned just in the last 5 years.

I'm still salty about how Google just abandoned android tablets.

Still isn't a good upgrade option for the shield k1

No, you don't understand chrome os, the kernel that it AND android is based on, or what people aer ready for. The Verge is just sellout trash, and that is what I came here to say =)

You're "here" to trash a platform based on ONE, literally ONE iteration, one single product to backup your otherwise baseless assertions. Buy another chromebook, pick one at random, and most of wht you've said no longer applies. Beyond that, you'd need to learn something about android and linux, but I won't hold my breath. Why? Becasue you're mainstream trash, and making mindless appeals to popularity, in and of itself, is just that: Mindless.
Lol, it's google's problem to fix? You don't understand chromebooks, and by that last statment you clearly don't understand the market.

I'm pretty sure if you put Chrome Os on a Surface Go or Surfave Pro type hardware with a Type Cover or Detachable type hardware then then make the software a little more tablet friendly, that would be extremely deadly for ipads and officially kill android tablets for GOOD

You didn't need to buy a Chromebook tablet to experience chrome os on a tablet you could just flip the screen around on your Lenovo.

I should be called a ChromePad

If you haven't tried, you wouldn't know… Don't say it's failing or wasn't ready yet… It's a gamble manufacturer made to improve the product or even the OS

    (April 13, 2019 - 10:51 pm)

Android tablets are not obsolete. I've owned 5 iPads and currently use a Google Pixel C, and it can do everything my iPads could do. Chrome OS on a tablet would be a stop gap to Fuchsia at best.

the split screen is best thing needed in the tablets , i can't see any point that shows there is a real issue in having chrome on tablet in fact it will be much better than android and iOS hope they come to market soon

I absolutely love my Acer Chromebook tab 10.

    (April 13, 2019 - 10:51 pm)

Review it fairly. Why did you even consider using the developer build for a video?
